About Us
Barossa Hearing in Nuriootpa is the only permanent, locally owned, independent hearing clinic in the Barossa Valley.
Are you missing out on the important conversations in life?
The Barossa Hearing Difference
With trained hearing specialists, audiologists and audiometrists, Barossa Hearing is independently owned and operated, giving you access to expert, unbiased advice.
What does this mean for you? Unlike many hearing clinics, we are NOT owned by a hearing-aid company. This means we will give you unbiased advice, instead of selling your our brand of hearing aids. We focus on the best solution for your hearing. We only recommend using a hearing device if we feel you will benefit from it and always provide an obligation-free trial.
We are also accredited under the Office of Hearing Services (OHS) to provide Department of Veteran Affairs clients and pensioners with a range of services at no out-of-pocket expense.
We also see Work Cover and Private clients. Feel free to come into the clinic and speak with one of our friendly staff for further information.
Barossa Hearing is also locally owned and operated. With over 40 years experience by our team, and 12 years helping locals, Barossa Hearing will help you hear what you have been missing.
Hearing Tests
The procedure of having your hearing tested is quick, comfortable and nothing to worry about. You will be required to wear either headphones or inserts and respond to each sound that you hear. The sounds will vary in pitch and loudness.
There are 2 main types of tests available, which are:
Comprehensive Testing:
- Air Conduction
- Bone conduction
- Speech
- Masking (which may or may not include a report for your GP)
Screening Assessment:
Air conduction only (not suitable if you are aware you have a hearing loss).
Hearing Aid Trials
At Barossa Hearing, we will provide Free hearing aid trials of different levels of technology to suit both your hearing and budget.
To find the best solution for you we will:
- Choose the beset device from over 10 different brands.
- Choose an option to fit your budget.
- Find a device that is cosmetically appealing to you.
- Choose a device that provides you with optimum benefit.
The only costs involved with a trial, are if moulds are made specifically for you and are returned to us as we are unable to use these for other clients. We do request however, that you insure the hearing devices during the trial in case something happens to them to protect yourself and also sign a trial agreement form.
Fitting Hearing Devices
Barossa Hearing is an independent clinic, so we can fit you with a range of devices specifically to suit your hearing result. You should allow at least 1 hour when you attend the clinic for your fitting as we will cover a range of things. It is really important if you could attend this appointment with a significant other, family or friend. We believe that the more support you have from family and friends, will help your journey with using hearing devices, especially if this is the first time you have used them.
Custom Ear Plugs
Barossa Hearing can provide custom made ear plugs by taking impressions of your ears and then sending these to the appropriate company to have made up specifically for you.
These may be used for:
- Noise Ear Plugs
- Musician’s Ear Plugs
- Sleep Ear Plugs to help reduce the impact of a snoring partner or outside noises affecting your sleep
- Swim Plugs, particularly useful for those who enjoy water sports or have grommets
Wax Suctioning
Wax removal is now available at Barossa Hearing using the VorOteck suction equipment and curettage. This is another option of wax removal, which is beneficial if you have had a negative experience with traditional syringing as it is gentle and non-invasive. This service isn’t covered by the Hearing Services Program and will have a fee attached. Please speak to our friendly reception team for more information.
